A 9-1-1 call is the most important type of call

Frontier delivers; it can literally be a matter of life and death. Frontier in Arizona worked with the Arizona Department of Administration, Information Services Division, on a project to upgrade equipment at these 9-1-1 centers: Mohave County, Kingman Police Department, Lake Havasu City Police Department and Bullhead City Police Department.

Frontier installed a new Cassidian Communications solution in each of the 9-1-1 centers that includes:

  • VESTA Pallas for call taking
  • ORION Vela for mapping
  • Aurora for historical and real-time reporting

Enhanced efficiency and functionality

The installation of the Cassidian Communications solution equipment has allowed Mohave County 911 to handle Phase II calls, meaning that cellphone calls to its 9-1-1 centers can now be mapped to the exact location of the person placing the calls. This makes the dispatcher’s job easier and saves time for emergency re-sponders. In addition, having a mapping application that plots 9-1-1 callers also helps dispatchers locate people who call 9-1-1 but for some reason can’t speak.”

Maria Hall, 9-1-1 Project Manager, State of Arizona, says of the upgrade, “Our challenge is to ensure that 9-1-1 services including the 9-1-1 network and the 9-1-1 center equipment meets the emergency needs of all Arizona citizens and visitors. During this past year, the 9-1-1 equipment in the four 9-1-1 centers in Mohave County met the criteria for replacement so a project to secure new equipment was established. The updated equipment provides additional functionality and the capability of handling wireless 9-1-1 calls more efficiently. Completing the project was instrumental in meeting budgetary goals of the State 9-1-1 program and preparing it for future changes.”

Partnering with Frontier

Hall adds, “Frontier has proven to be a true partner in working with our office as well as the 9-1-1 centers of Mohave County. The installations were well planned and managed from start to finish. This resulted in minimum downtime for the centers involved — a very critical element when working with 9-1-1.” Also appreciative of Frontier’s work on the Mohave County 9-1-1 project is Barbara Jaeger, State 9-1-1 Administrator. “We appreciate the positive attitude and unique insight of the Frontier team which allows us to move into the future. The Frontier 9-1-1 account team provides a willingness to work with us to develop a ‘win, win’ situation for Frontier and the Arizona 9-1-1 community.
